SHICHIDA METHOD: 100 wisdoms how to develop your child‘s intellectual ability/七田式・本当の知力をつける100の知恵

[34. Basic Knowledge 9: Time  part 3]

Learning concepts of time is important for a child’s upbringing.

For example, your child wants to have some snacks at 2:20PM and parents can show your child the mechanical clock and tell him/her “Let’s have snacks at 3:00PM.” (We recommend using a mechanical clock over a digital clock because a mechanical clock can physically show your child the lapse of time)

However, your child can see that the short clock hand doesn’t move soon.

You can tell your child “The long clock hand moves faster. When it reaches at 12, it means that it’s time for your snacks!” Then when the long hand reaches 12, as told to expect a snack at 3:00 PM, your child will know that it’s 3:00 PM when given their snack.

Using this technique, your child will be able to learn to wait for the time with enjoyment.

Their small patience will lead to strong perseverance, a great quality to have in a person.

Children may never learn the sense of the time naturally unless parents teach them.

Children will need time management skill at elementary school because there are time schedule like “Come to school by 8:00AM”.

If your child couldn’t read a clock, he/she may not be able to be punctual or know what time it is.

This is the reason why we suggest children should learn how to read a clock before elementary school.
