SHICHIDA METHOD: 100 wisdoms how to develop your child‘s intellectual ability/七田式・本当の知力をつける100の知恵

[18. The 1st stage of children’s intellectual development -Discrimination]

The first step to develop intellectually is to understand the concept of discrimination.

Discrimination is the ability of acknowledging names and their uses.

For example, children understand names such as “a pencil” and “a glass” and concepts of “pencil is a tool for writing” and “glass is a tool for drinks.”

Parents should start to help their child develop the ability of discrimination at age 0.

You can point at things around your child and teach them names like “This is … .”

You also can flash picture cards and tell the names of the object’s, or point at pictures and tell names while reading a story to your child.

When your child understands which object each name refers to and become able to answer questions with two selections such as “which one is a pencil?” you can say your child has developed the ability of discrimination.
